Coalition goes after GetUp
The Coalition is looking at introducing rules to ban those who are not attached to a registered party or independent candidate from spruiking outside polling booths.
This could restrict GetUp in future elections, who turned up at polling booths nationwide to campaign against conservative politicians.
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has called their actions on election day “deceptive”, “undemocratic” and “unrepresentative”.
Energy Minister Angus Taylor tells Chris Smith GetUp volunteers showed up to a polling booth in his electorate at south Goulburn.
“We saw a GetUp volunteer arrive and start saying ‘vote one GetUp’.
“They can’t work out whether they’re a political party or they’re just trying to influence the outcome.
“GetUp needs to decide what it is and needs to be accountable for that.”
