A conservationist has given a straightforward reason for an increase in crocodile attacks in Queensland.

A man was flown to Cairns Hospital on Saturday with injuries to his head, arms and leg after being attacked by a crocodile while spearfishing.

It came just days after a man was bitten by a crocodile while sleeping on Newell Beach.

“It’s not the crocs that are out of control, I can guarantee that,” conservationist Mick Bender told Luke Bradnam.

“If you look at the numbers, the crocs’ numbers haven’t changed drastically whatsoever, their numbers are still actually recovering from the time they were hunted to the brink of extinction.”
