Could this be the end of alcohol advertising?

Article image for Could this be the end of alcohol advertising?

NSW Parliament will debate a new Bill proposing to enforce a total ban on alcohol advertising.

Christian Democrat Fred Nile is leading the push for the ban.

Executive manager of Clubs NSW Josh Landis tells Mark Levy the proposed legislation could kill the funding for grassroots sporting teams.

“Many clubs were established for the very purpose of promoting sport. This Bill Fred Nile’s put up would ban clubs from being able to promote and sponsor sport.”

Mr Landis also says the public should feel “comforted” by the advertising regulations already in place.

“People should feel comforted by the vast number of measures taken to ensure alcohol ads are responsible. Companies have internal guidelines.

“There are codes that govern the ads that can go to air.”
