Council frees up wall space to give Brisbane a brush with street art
Brisbane is embracing public street art with new programs around the city.
Council is providing walls for uncommissioned, legal street art in a bid to reduce graffiti on public and private properties.
The first three walls have been made available in Ekibin Park, Greenslopes.
Local street artist Tervo told Laurel, Gary & Mark the initiative will give emerging and established artists a chance to hone their skills.
“[It’s] essentially a practice wall for us,” he said. “It’s really hard to convince a potential client to approve work they’ve never seen before.
“This gives us space to practice, potentially fail, or potentially succeed really well, and then go to a client and say, ‘Look what I’ve done, I can do this for you’.
“Or, art being art, it allows us just to play, as well, which is something that unfortunately gets rare for some of us.”
