‘Deeply regretful’: Ipswich deputy mayor regrets decision on Pisasale bridge
Ipswich Council is expected to overturn a decision to reinstate the name of a bridge and road after disgraced former mayor Paul Pisasale.
Last week, five of nine councillors voted to reinstate Pisasale Drive in Yamanto, named after his parents, and Paul Pisasale Bridge in Springfield.
It caused widespread community outrage, prompting a fresh vote on Thursday.
An apologetic Deputy Mayor Jacob Madsen, who had voted in favour of the city assets remaining in the Pisasale name, today admitted it was a failure in his judgement.
He accepts people will be disappointed in him, and he was disappointed in himself.
“It’s deeply regretful because we didn’t focus on what the issue is, and that’s that the former mayor’s name shouldn’t be on the bridge, I think everyone actually thinks that,” he told Peter Fegan, filling in on 4BC Drive.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding told Mark Levy it was a relief and the bridge will now have an Indigenous name.
