Country star Gina Jeffreys reveals heartbreaking reason for 12-year hiatus
Once the darling of Australian country music, Gina Jeffreys has broken a touring hiatus for the release of her latest album.
Beautiful Tangle, including song Milestones, is a heartfelt return to the spotlight after more than a decade.
Initially telling media she quit the industry because of a dedication to being a mum to son Jacky, Jeffreys has revealed to Tony Pilkington it wasn’t the only reason.
“That song is about a baby that we lost,” she said on the meaning behind Milestones. “We did IVF for a couple of years and lost an IVF baby on my 39th birthday.
“At the same time as I initially got pregnant, one of my best friends also got pregnant and had a little boy.
“Every time I see him, it reminds me of how old our child would’ve been and all those milestones that he reaches, … I just look at him and go, ‘well, that would’ve been our son as well’.”
Jeffreys admitted for a time, she couldn’t bear to talk about her loss, which became “a big part of the reason” she stepped away from her music career.
“I just did not want anyone to even know what we were going through.
“You’re the first, probably, media person I’ve spoken to about it.”
