Damning probe into dismissal of seven Logan councillors calls for Royal Commission
A damning report into the Crime and Corruption Commission has been tabled in parliament, calling for a Royal Commission into the organisation.
It found the CCC exceeded its powers and failed to act independently and impartially.
“This is going to place a massive amount of speculation and focus on the head of the CCC, Alan MacSporran, and his position as well,” Nine News reporter Tim Arvier told Sofie Formica.
It comes after the seven councillors were charged with fraud by the CCC.
“The CCC was actually helping Sharon Kelsey in her fight to get her job back,” Tim continued.
“[They] got documents and information using its coercive powers … and gave those documents to Sharon Kelsey.
“Essentially, the CCC wasn’t acting impartially or independently, because it was helping her in her own legal fight.”

Following the release of the report, there are now calls for CCC chairman Alan MacSporran to stand down.
Sunshine Coast mayor Mark Jamieson, who is also the president of the Local Government Association of Queensland, is among them.
He told Scott Emerson the report found the CCC failed to act independently.
“We believe in the need for an oversight, a watchdog, but a watchdog that has unfettered powers, is a threat to our democracy.”
