‘Darkest chapter’: Opposition calls for ‘proper, full-blown Royal Commission’ into state government’s conduct

Article image for ‘Darkest chapter’: Opposition calls for ‘proper, full-blown Royal Commission’ into state government’s conduct

The state opposition says the inquiry into Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) should have the powers of a Royal Commission and go further.

It follows a parliamentary committee report which examined the decision to charge eight Logan City councillors with fraud in 2018.

It found the CCC failed to act independently and impartially.

Today Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that Tony Fitzgerald AC will chair a six month inquiry into the allegations.

State Opposition Leader David Crisafulli told Scott Emerson the probe doesn’t go far enough.

“Today’s announcement is a review of one element which is the CCC,” he said on 4BC Drive.

“But the Premier’s not willing to say that this runs deeper, so this report isn’t going to tell me what was on the laptop of the integrity commissioner who’s office was raided against her wishes.”
