Interstate travellers have snapped up bookings to some of Queensland’s most prized tourism hot spots.

Northern Queensland has been hot property since the state government announced borders will re-open on December 17.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO Rick Hamilton said it’s been “overwhelming and positive” since the release of the roadmap.

Reservations for Hamilton Island are already fully-booked for October and holiday demand among vacationers from NSW has spiked toward the end of the year and into 2022.

He said they had heard a similar story out of Hayman Island.

“Usually in the January-late January period, you see things dropping off because it gets a little warm and humid up here … at the moment we are sitting at full booking at 50-60 per cent which is great.”
