Drift update: Lord Mayor reveals obstacle to removal of riverside restaurant

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has revealed the wreck of the remaining Drift restaurant may not be able to removed for another few weeks.
It’s now beached on the Bicentennial Bikeway after the recent flooding of the Brisbane River.
It has been labelled an “eyesore” by the mayor in previous weeks.
The remains of the riverside restaurant have been a point of contention since the 2011 floods when it was flooded initially.
In a statement on Twitter, he says the removal of the contentious former riverside venue may take some time.
“Safety is our first priority and with the state government’s works taking longer than expected we have made the decision to convert a small section of Coronation Drive into a temporary bikeway to allow cyclists to safely travel between the western suburbs and inner city.”
