‘Drives me nuts’: Federal MP fires up over Drift wreck chaos

Ryan MP Julian Simmonds says the issue of the removal of the remains of the Drift restaurant is a “ridiculous situation”.
The wreck of the former riverside venue may not be removed from where it is beached on the Bicentennial Bikeway for up to six weeks.
Brisbane City Council will convert a section of Coronation Drive into a bikeway from Monday to improve safety for cyclists.
“This issue just drives me nuts,” he told Scott Emerson during his weekly Question Time chat.
“I was in the council before federal government, and we went through this after the 2011 floods.
“That Drift restaurant should have been taken away at that point, and we begged the state government to cancel the lease.”
He says it’s a “ridiculous situation” where Brisbane’s busiest bikeway is unavailable.
From Monday, there will also be changes to traffic along Coronation Drive, with one lane of traffic being converted into a two-way bikeway to allow cyclists to safely travel to and from Brisbane’s western suburbs.
