E-scooters locked down in popular night spots under new trial
E-scooters will be locked from midnight to 5am on weekends in Brisbane’s CBD and Fortitude Valley in a new safety trial being conducted by the Brisbane City Council.
The shutdown means e-scooter users won’t be able to start new trips in the safe night precinct areas of the CBD and Fortitude Valley on Friday and Saturday nights, from December 1.
Brisbane City’s Chandler Ward councillor and cabinet chair for transport, Ryan Murphy, said it was about stopping people from injuring themselves or others in those popular nightspots.
“We think particularly around the CBD and the Valley, the risks outweigh the benefits and so this lockdown will be occurring Friday and Saturday night, in the CBD and Valley, between the hours of midnight and 5am.”
