Education expert slams Gonski 2.0 as a waste of time
An education expert says the latest curriculum review has ignored years of research into our failing schooling systems.
Kevin Donnelly is a senior research fellow at the Australian Catholic University and was part of a 2014 review.
The latest report, a 156-page review being called Gonski 2.0, says students need “general capabilities” rather than a focus on numeracy and literacy skills.
Dr Donnelly tells Alan Jones, it’s been a complete waste of time.
“It pushes the idea of general capabilities. You have to be creative, you have to be into inquiry-based learning.
“But if you don’t know anything, how can you be creative?
“The Gonski people never talked to me or Ken Wiltshire, they never read our report. It’s not actually even cited in their review released yesterday.
“I taught for 18 years and I know that you must, as a teacher, be the master of your subject. You need to teach essential content.”
