Queensland Health has confirmed elective surgeries in public hospitals will go ahead where possible on the public holiday to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Neil Breen yesterday questioned what the plan was for the state’s public health system as the public holiday on Thursday draws closer.

“Queensland public hospitals will continue to perform as much elective surgery as possible on the September 22 public holiday, subject to staff availability,” a Queensland Health statement read.

“This is a one-off public holiday and everything possible is being done to minimise any disruption to patients.”
