Trains won’t run through the city this weekend as works continue on the Cross River Rail project.

From Good Friday to, there will be a series of track closures impacting the Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Inner North, Cleveland, Ferny Grove and Shorncliffe lines.

Timetabled railbuses will replace trains between the Roma Street, Banoon, Cannon Hill, Ferny Grove, Northgate and Shorncliffe stations.

Brisbane Airport is bracing for a record number of travellers today ahead of the Easter long weekend.

Around 59,000 people are expected to stream through the domestic terminal.

Brisbane Airport Corporation spokesperson Rachel Bronish told Spencer Howson it will be the largest number of travellers since the pandemic began.

“We always expected the day before the Easter long weekend to be our busiest,” she said.

Anyone flying out this weekend is encouraged to arrive two hours before departure and take some extra steps to make the process go smoothly.

“If you’re driving in, book your parking online in advance.

“If you can, avoid excess baggage and travel light; if you don’t have to check in baggage, even better.

“And just remembering those things for the security line: bringing out your laptop and aerosol, any metal belts or chunky jewellery that might be triggered by the x-ray system, just having them ready and out before you get to the front of the line will save some time as well.”
