EXCLUSIVE | Passenger plane likely shot down in Iran in ‘terrible accident’: Scott Morrison
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed the Australian government believes a passenger plane that crashed in Iran was the victim of a “terrible accident”.
176 people, including 63 Canadians, died when the Ukranian passenger plane crashed in Iran on Wednesday.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused Iran of taking down the plane with a missile, and called for “answers and justice”.
Tehran has repeatedly claimed the crash was the result of a mechanical malfunction.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australian intelligence suggests the plane was shot down, but tells John Stanley it was likely an accident.
“I can confirm that we have had similar intelligence as our partners have.
“This is not a deliberate act as we can determine.
“It’s a terrible accident.”
Mr Morrison says he has plans to speak to the Ukranian Prime Minister later today and supports a full inquiry.
