EXCLUSIVE | Taine Woodford’s inspirational footy comeback after cancer battle
Rabbitohs Jersey Flegg young gun Taine Woodford says he’s excited to be back playing Rugby League after overcoming a battle with cancer.
In October last year, the then 20-year-old was diagnosed with cancer after doctors found a 12cm tumor between his lungs and heart.
After undergoing chemotherapy and recovering earlier this year, Woodford was been given the green light by doctors to return to rugby league.
This weekend that dream will become a reality with Woodford named on the bench to make his debut for South Sydney in the Jersey Flegg clash with Wests Tigers on Sunday.
Woodford who’s celebrating his 21st birthday on Saturday told The Continuous Call Team he’s raring to go.
“It’s really exciting because the whole process going in and out of hospital has been tough for me and my family,” Woodford said.
“I was pretty touch and go for a while there, I think the doctors got annoyed with me asking the tough questions about life getting back to normal.
“But it’s really satisfying to get back on the field.”
