Expert weighs in on CTE in professional sport
While concussion protocols are on the rise in contact sports, there are questions about the effectiveness of traditional physical protocols.
Professor Michael Buckland, Founder and Director of Australian Sports Brain Bank, told Peter Gleeson on 4BC Drive, “What we know so far, is that CTE is not just about concussion, it is actually about head impacts of a significant force regardless of whether they cause a concussion or not…”
“The evidence to date indicates that head gear doesn’t seem to make much of a difference…unfortunately the brain is still rattling around the skull with the big impacts…”
