Falkholt family killer was a habitual offender | ‘He was definitely a risk’
The driver who killed three members of the Falkholt family and left another fighting for life was a habitual traffic offender.
As revealed by The Daily Telegraph, Craig Whittall served four jail sentences, earned a nine-year driving ban and had more than 60 convictions to his name.
Despite this, Whitall was behind the wheel of his Toyota Prado on Boxing Day, smashing head-on into the Falkholt family’s car near Ulladulla, while returning from a methadone clinic.
The 50-year-old killed himself as well as Lars, Vivian and Annabelle Falkholt and left Jessica fighting for life.
Last night, Jessica’s life support was switched off, leaving her in a critical condition, clinging to life.
On Wednesday, Jessica’s sister and parents were farewelled by hundreds of family and friends at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Concord.
Chris Kenny speaks with former Queensland police officer ‘Andrew’ who served for eight years up until 2004.
According to Andrew, Whittall was well-known to police.
“He was extremely well-known to us, even in those days.
“He was always coming under our attention.”
The former cop also tells Chris that Whittall was a risk to the community.
“Each time we arrested him, he was under the influence of something. So yes, he was definitely a risk.
“It was a shock that he was out on the streets. But it was no shock he was involved.
“The courts are letting these people off way too lightly.”
