A former Labor powerbroker is warning pre-polling could have a huge impact on the result of the federal election.

More than one million Australians have submitted their ballots since early-voting opened on April 29.

As of COB yesterday approximately 1.15m people have cast their vote at an early voting centre for the 2019 federal election. Around 240k were cast yesterday. #ausvotes

Various MPs have questioned whether the three-week early-voting period is too long, with both major parties hinting it could be reviewed after the election.

Former Labor senator Graham Richardson tells Ray Hadley pre-polling is “changing the game quite significantly”.

“It has a massive effect. This is a new phenomenon that we’ve all got to take to account.

“If you’re voting weeks before the election date, as you know things change week-to-week. There are different issues.”
