Residents in some of Brisbane’s suburbs are going to extraordinary lengths, hiring private security to patrol the streets at night.

Some locals in Ascot, Clayfield, and Hamilton now have nightly security.

24-7 Group Security operations manager Peter Ross says says some of the residents have “had enough”, especially those who have fallen victim to crime in recent years.

Around 20 families have hired a guard to watch over their street, amid growing frustration for Brisbane’s youth crime issue.

He says guards roam the streets and work in specific areas.

“Typically we are working at nighttime and rostered times if required,” he told Scott Emerson.

He says it gives people peace of mind and they act as a deterrent for crooks.
