There are predictions next week’s federal budget will be a “family” themed budget, with a focus on childcare as well as cost-of-living measures.

It’s also likely to increase Australia’s inflation forecast, while flooding across three states is expected to push up the cost of fruit and vegetables by 8 per cent over the next six months.

“We know that in Queensland, there’s going to be about $200 million for the Great Barrier Reef, the other leak today was a bit over $1 billion for the Pacific, that’s to improve security in the Pacific,” 4BC’s federal political editor Michael Pachi said.

“The other big ticket items in the budget next week is childcare, they are pretty much going to tell us how much their childcare policy is going to cost … that’s going to be the biggest line item in the budget next Tuesday.”
