Feds unaware of state government’s plan to use Pinkenba facility
The Queensland government announced yesterday their potential plan to use the facility in Pinkenba to house the homeless; but the federal government are in the dark.
A Queensland government spokesperson said yesterday, “we’re facilitating conversations between community housing groups, the Commonwealth and Brisbane City Council about possible ways the Pinkenba facility could be used to house people experiencing or at risk of homelessness”.
However, when Treasurer Jim Chalmers was asked to confirm this today, he said “I’m not aware yet from an approach from the state government”.
The Treasure said the federal government were prepared to work with their Queensland counterparts over the future of the Pinkenba facility “if they were asked to consider it”.
Neil Breen slammed the state government on Brisbane Live saying, “are the state government putting out press releases again without talking to the feds?”.
“Are the homeless people of Brisbane being used as political pawns? …It’s shameful”, Neil Breen commented.
