Fierce backlash prompts Ipswich City Council backflip
Ipswich City Council will “go back to the drawing board” to re-name two city assets carrying the Pisasale name after fierce backlash.
Last week, five councillors voted to keep Pisasale Drive in Yamanto and Paul Pisasale Bridge in Springfield named as is.
Pisasale was sentenced to 7.5 years behind bars in 2020 for more than 30 serious crimes.
Nine News reporter Josh Bavas reported this afternoon the council had backflipped.
“This is a true 360,” he told Peter Fegan on 4BC Drive.
“Council will go back to the drawing board try and find the new name for the roadway in Yamanto and the bridge in Springfield.”
He said it appears council will move a special motion next week, and go back to the drawing board.
Cr Russell Milligan released as statement this afternoon saying he had re-considered and listened to the concerns in the community.
