Finance Minister returns serve over Premier’s Pinkenba jibe
Finance Minister Simon Birmingham has returned fire after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk challenged the federal government to release the costings of the Pinkenba quarantine facility.
Yesterday, Premier Palaszczuk said she would consider revealing the cost of the Toowoomba quarantine camp if the federal government revealed the cost to taxpayers for the Pinkenba site being built.
He told Scott Emerson they are not “remotely interested” in playing politics.
“We are on track in terms of the finances, building all oft hose elements to be able to hold over the different aspects of that facility under the agreements we’ve got with the Queensland government.”
Minister Birmingham said he found the Premier’s comments “slightly baffling”.
He said it was on the public record that the total cost of the facilities being built in Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne would be $1.3 billion.
He vowed to release the costings of the Pinkenba facility, when the contractual negotiations are done.
