A request for Interpol to suspend Russia’s access to the global police agency’s systems could be an unprecedented move.

The Five Eyes made the call earlier this week, arguing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a direct threat to international law enforcement cooperation.

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews told Neil Breen she believes the request was “unprecedented action by the Five Eyes”.

“The Interpol systems are extremely important and we want to make sure access [for] Russia is considered, and quite frankly, limited.”

She said the Five Eyes is yet to receive a response from Interpol.

“We will continue to pursue that.”
