Former Origin player Kevin Campion joins anti-ice campaign

Former Queensland Origin player Kevin Campion is getting involved in the fight against ice.

The former NRL forward began volunteering with the Australian Anti Ice Campaign (AAIC) three years ago, aiming to educate school children about the dangers of the drug.

He tells Ray Hadley he started looking for answers after witnessing first-hand the effect the drug was having on youth in his community.

“Seven years ago one of my sons’ teammates, who was only 14 at the time, took his own life.

“Not long after two young boys from the Sarina region took their lives, and it’s been an ongoing thing ever since.”

CEO of the AAIC Andre’a Simmons says she felt compelled to start the organisation after her own battle with ice at the age of 40.

“That one decision to try it that day took my life for two years. I became an ice addict.

“Our job as people who have had the privilege of coming through on the other side with our lives is to get back in there and warn our next generation.”
