Former PM Scott Morrison laughs off suggestions of rugby league gig

Former Australian prime minister Scott Morrison had reportedly approached powerbrokers within the NRL before the State of Origin series to be a part of the Australian Rugby League Commission.

There are currently no vacancies on the commission.

Nine News chief league reporter Danny Weidler said Mr Morrison has since tried to dismiss it as “pub talk”.

“It’s not pub talk, it’s him talking. It’s him who is making the enquiry, I have had it confirmed,” he told Peter Fegan on 4BC Drive.

He would have to resign as the member for Cook.

“Peter V’landys chose his words carefully when I put it to him, he said that he had had no direct request from Scott Morrison but he was not surprised when I put it to him.”
