Former Netherlands coach Bert Van Marwijk has been announced as the new Socceroos leader and not everyone’s impressed.
Former Socceroos player Robbie Slater tells Chris Smith the situation is “disappointing” and Australia’s former coach Ange Postecoglou shouldn’t have walked out on his team
“It’s still…a very disappointing scenario for Australia because I think Ange should have stayed.
“It was Ange that walked away, only he knows why. He knew the team. It’s his team.
“Bert is just a short-term European replacement. He’s basically going to be here for five months… and then he’ll be gone.”
Robbie speculates the Socceroos would’ve forked out “at least a couple of million” to lure Van Marwijk to the job.
The new coach will take Australia to the World Cup in Russia this year.
