France cancels Washington gala in furious response to ‘stab in the back’
The French Foreign Minister has hit back over Australia’s decision to cancel its submarine deal.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday announced a trilateral partnership with the UK and US, which will deliver Australia a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.
In light of the new deal, Australia scrapped its existing $90 billion contract with French shipbuilder Naval Group, which France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian yesterday described as “a stab in the back”.
This morning France has cancelled a gala in Washington celebrating its US alliance in protest.
