Furious Anika Wells blows up over Mirvac’s latest, ‘contemptuous’ move
A federal minister is seeing red over what she describes as a ‘contemptuous’ move by a property developer.
Member for Lilley Anika Wells and Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard were due to meet with Mirvac yesterday on behalf of evicted Toombul Shopping Centre tenants.
It was hoped the politicians would facilitate the resolution of some issues, including allowing business owners access to recover items from their stores.
But at the eleventh hour, Mirvac canned the meeting because one of three executives due to attend was no longer able.
“We moved heaven and earth to make the only time Mirvac nominated for us to meet them and then an hour out, they cancelled,” Ms Wells told Neil Breen.
“Wouldn’t do a Zoom instead, … wouldn’t even speak to us on the phone.
“It is staggering. I have never seen a company treat my community the way Mirvac are currently treating [them].”
Ms Wells said it’s ironic the company is showing such disregard after receiving $19 million in JobKeeper payments during the pandemic.
“They were very happy to receive $19 million from Australian taxpayers when they needed it but now when the Australian people need a bit of compassion from them, they are nowhere to be found.”
