Government backs down on new laws that could target regular pet owners

Article image for Government backs down on new laws that could target regular pet owners

Proposed legislation designed to limit the number of female dogs on a property to one will not affect ordinary pet owners or recreational breeders.

Following Ray Hadley’s interview yesterday with Veterinarian, Dr Robert Zammit, NSW Minister for Primary Industries Niall Blair tells 4BC he will commit to meeting with recreational breeders who are concerned they’ll be unfairly affected.

“We want to make sure that we get rid of the people that shouldn’t be in this industry and were abusing animals for their profit.

“But we also want to have a system that supports the well-respected breeders and the people that do it every now and again.

“We can’t have government targeting the bad people and hurting the good people on the way through.”
