Grace Tame has reported her childhood abuser to police, accusing him of targeting her online with open threats.

The former Australian of the Year shared images on social media of tweets appearing to be from former Tasmanian school teacher Nico Bester.

Ms Tame was a student when she was sexually abused by the then-58-year-old in 2010, who went on to brag about his crimes online.

“Here he is, the twice-convicted child sex offender, referring to my childhood email, which very few people know,” Ms Tame wrote.

“It was the login to my old Facebook he and I communicated on.”

Ms Tame shared screenshots of tweets appearing to be from Bester, threatening her with “good old comeuppance”.

Bester was sentenced to two years and 10 months in jail for maintaining a sexual relationship with someone under the age of 17 and possession of child exploitation material.

Until 2019, Ms Tame was barred from identifying herself as a survivor of sexual assault because of laws in Tasmania.

After fighting her way through the Supreme Court, she became the first woman in the state to be granted a special exemption to self-identify as a rape survivor.

The law was officially changed the following year.
