Greens slammed over ‘unconscionable’ policy that would ban horse racing in Australia
The Greens have been rebuked over an “unconscionable” push to ban horse racing in Australia.
Senator Mehreen Faruqi sparked fierce backlash on social media on Sunday when she shared the latest policy proposal to her followers.
Horse trainer Richard Freedman told Chris O’Keefe “all they’re seeking to do here” is get re-elected.
“If you’re a senator, you only have to get a very small percentage of the population to vote for you so you can sit on your fat salary and your fat superannuation and get another term.
“To say we’re going to put thousands of people out of work and eliminate this sport, just because it suits our political purpose is just unconscionable; it’s just political expediency.”
Mr Freedman said he’s the “sensible” portion of the Labor Party will not support the bid.
“I don’t think they would indulge this.
“Whether they’re going to come out and distance themselves publicly, it might be politically in their advantage not to do that.”
