Tens of thousands of fans have packed into the Melbourne Cricket Ground to farewell Shane Warne.

The state memorial service at the MCG was full of emotional tributes, stories from the cricket field and an insight into Warne’s charity work.

2GB host Jim Wilson told Neil Breen it was a fitting send-off for the King of Spin.

“I was sitting here going ‘The King would be loving this’,” Jim said.

“I knew him for the best part of 30 years and he would’ve been going ‘Oh-hoh, I’ve just had a special song dedicated to me by Sir Elton John, by Chris Martin’.

“He would’ve been chuffed.”
