Loved ones will gather today to farewell Alan Dare, the heroic neighbour who was shot and killed in the deadly ambush on the Western Downs last week.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll announced the 58-year-old will be receiving a posthumous medal for bravery.

Following a funeral service, there will be a motorcade of classic Ford cars.

Alan was a big Ford fan, often pictured wearing a top with a XC Cobra.

Car enthusiast Troy Postle will drive Alan’s wife, Kerry, to the funeral today in his Ford Falcon XC Cobra, Alan’s favourite car.

The family had posted on social media looking for a Ford Cobra singlet to wear when he is laid to rest today.

He told Bill McDonald, he offered to drive Kerry.

While he’s eager for the focus to be on Alan and his farewell, he feels honoured to play a small role.

“I thought well let’s go a bit further and let’s organise 50-100 other Fords to come out today, and the response from the car community of Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Chinchilla, Sunshine Coast has been nothing short of amazing,” he said.

Kerry was incredibly thankful and appreciative of the efforts from the car community to “send Alan off in style”.

Gary Williams is the XR Owner Club of Queensland, and while he didn’t know Alan personally, he has called on Ford enthusiasts to give Alan a special send-off.

“He was a fellow that for no other reason was in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and paid the ultimate price,” he said on 4BC Breakfast.

“I’m an ex-ADF member and this shows to me, that not everybody who wears a uniform is a hero.”

Anyone who wants to be involved in the procession is asked to be at Sylvan Funerals at Ipswich by 2.30pm.
