High-risk areas, suburbs in the Sunshine State when sea levels rise
Some of Queensland’s popular coastal tourist destinations and suburbs are in danger of disappearing, if sea levels rise just 0.84 metres.
The predictions form part of the Coastal Risk Australia Map are for the year 2100.
Bond University environmental science expert, Dr Daryl McPhee, said sea levels rising 0.84 metres wasn’t extreme, but it would mean “high inundation”.
He said Brisbane Airport was at substantial risk, as well as low-lying areas.
