Home Affairs Minister won’t speak with Alex Hawke on Djokovic’s visa

The Home Affairs Minister says a decision on Novak Djokovic’s visa lies solely in the Immigration Minister’s court.

Despite a court ruling in Djokovic’s favour, Alex Hawke has the authority to cancel the Serbian tennis star’s visa under Section 133c(3) of the Migration Act, which would bar him from entering the country for three years.

Minister Karen Andrews told Neil Breen she won’t try to influence her colleague.

“No, absolutely not,” she said. “I can assure you I will not be speaking to Alex Hawke in relation to this particular matter.”

“It is an ongoing matter and that is where it stands at this point in time.”
