Former Home and Away star Mat Stevenson has shared his admiration for his ‘courageous’ daughter, Grace, teaching him to chase his dreams.

At just 12 years of age, Grace came to terms with feelings of gender dysmorphia, having been born with a male body.

“[She came] to me and her step-mum and announce she wanted to take a courageous path,” Stevenson told Sofie Formica.

“I often say I had a front-row seat to one of the most courageous things I’ve ever seen, which was watching Grace run towards authenticity.”

Grace explained from a very young age, she didn’t feel she fit in with other boys.

“I knew that I was different and the male gender roles didn’t quite sit with me,” she said.

“But when I was 12, I came across a documentary about another trans girl and then I realised there was finally a word, ‘transgender’, to explain all of these mismatched feelings that I had.”
