How artificial intelligence is informing QLD’s road safety strategy
Artificial intelligence is being used to track data gathered from roads safety cameras, in a bid to change the way road safety is approached.
The Advanced Mobility Analytics Group, a Brisbane start-up, tracks near-misses and crashes to help inform the risk and danger areas.
The AI cameras are being trialled between Gold Coast and Northern Queensland.
AMAG CEO Dr Simon Washington says the AI evaluates a scene at a location continuously, and is able to estimate the risk of crash for any road users including pedestrians, cyclists, heavy road operators.
“We can predict by looking at the risk, the likelihood of a crash at the location and then engineers can come in and look at that and assess that risks and make decisions about how to improve the site before we have the crashes that follow,” he told Scott Emerson.
