How investigators ruled a Russia launch out of Poland missile blast
Missiles that struck a Polish farm and killed two people were probably launched by air defences in Ukraine, investigations have determined.
Russia had been bombarding Ukraine at the time the stray missiles landed in Poland but both warring countries denied fault.
While it was determined early on that the missiles were Russian-made, US President Joe Biden later revealed they were not launched from Russia.
“The trajectory they thought the missile was on made it unlikely to be a Russian launch,” The Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Michael Shoebridge told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
“It turns out, it looks like it was a Russian missile but it was an air defence missile that the Ukrainians launched against the Russian attacks.
“Air defence missiles don’t have the range to get from Russia to that part of Poland.”
As for why Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of the blast, Mr Shoebridge said early information that it was a Russian missile was likely to blame.
“But since then, we’ve heard from the NATO Secretary General and the update from the US.”
