How the State of Origin decider set a new benchmark for Aussie sport
One of the greatest State of Origin series ever played has broken streaming records to set a new benchmark for Australian sport.
Last night’s blockbuster decider attracted the eyes of 3.048 million people, with 463,000 turning to 9Now to stream the clash.
It means the decider became the biggest-ever live streaming event of all time across all Australian broadcasters.
The two previous matches closely follow this record at 425,000 and 393,000 respectively for Australia’s most-streamed sporting events.
Nine’s Director of Sport, Brent Williams, said the numbers prove Origin is “a sporting event without rival in this country”.
“To break the record for highest live streamed event in Australia not once, but twice, in the same series is an incredible achievement.”
Last night’s Linear TV numbers were nothing to sneeze at either, with the event claiming a national average audience of 2.585 million viewers.
The decider was the highest-rating State of Origin game overall since 2019’s Game I.
