Crews have managed to contain a huge industrial blaze in Rocklea this afternoon which is sent thick, black smoke billowing into the air.

Paramedics were also called to the scene at Ashover Road, near Archerfield Airport.

It’s understood two different sheds caught alight and the fire spread to start burning fuel, tyres and other scrap metal.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and residents were told to close their windows and stay indoors.

Caller Gavin drove past and said there was a “lot of black smoke” in the area.

Roads are closed nearby.

Caller Randall’s front yard is just 200 metres from the fire.

He left the house 10 minutes ago to escape the smoke.

“Probably 10-15 metres high (the flames).”

He says he didn’t hear an explosion.
