Huge numbers of aged care workers to leave the sector
It’s been revealed more than a third of aged care workers are planning on leaving the sector in the next five years.
A survey of 5000 aged care workers found staff are incredibly burnt out and many don’t plan on working in the industry in the long-term.
Health Services Union National President Gerard Hayes tells Steve Price the results aren’t altogether surprising as it’s a very difficult industry to work in.
“It’s an incredibly demanding, emotional job.
“It is absolutely a staffing problem but it’s fundamental of a funding issue at the end of the day.
“The government has just got to buy in and look after our senior citizens. This is not an issue where we can treat people as commodities.”
