Alan Jones has slammed Rugby Australia’s decision to appoint Dave Rennie as the new Wallabies coach.

The New Zealander was appointed by compatriot and Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle, and outgoing Chairman Cameron Clyne.

Ms Castle claims there were no Australian candidates for the position but Alan says that’s ridiculous.

“This was a stitch-up from day one.”

Alan believes Rennie was unofficially given the job at the 2019 Rugby World Cup saying, “this was all signed, sealed and delivered some time ago”.

Rennie is currently coaching a mid-tier team, playing in the Glasgow league in Scotland and was reportedly never even considered for the vacant All Blacks position.

It also turns out Rennie is managed by the same agency that represents the Director of Australian Rugby.

Alan Jones, a former Grand Slam-winning Wallabies coach, says Rennie and Rugby Australia have categorically made the wrong decision.

“I do not support the appointment of Dave Rennie as the Australian Rugby coach, nor do I support the sycophantic endorsement of him in the press release distributed by Raelene Castle.”
