‘I thought I’d get shouted down’: Premier’s plan gets PM’s tick of approval
The Premier says she’s pleasantly surprised by the Prime Minister’s response to her demand for more say in migration numbers.
Gladys Berejiklian and other state and territory leaders sat down with Scott Morrison in Adelaide.
Ms Berejiklian tells Chris Smith her counterparts were open to her plans and agreed to make population policy a standing-order at future COAG meetings.
“I was pleasantly surprised. The PM and all the other state leaders actually supported [it].
“We need to be able to plan properly and I’m relieved that finally the states are being given the respect and the attention to really have input.
“It was a much more fruitful discussion than I thought. I actually thought I’d get shouted down.”

Chris also asked the Premier about recent polling which suggests she will lose next year’s election.
“The polls suggest you’ll struggle to retain office. Have you got a plan for when you get beaten?” asks Chris.
“I always consider what the people of NSW need,” says the Premier.
“And I don’t want to think about what would happen if Labor got in control again.”
