‘I would’ve bloody done it myself!’: Raelene Boyle praises Mack Horton
Olympian Raelene Boyle has praised Aussie swimmer Mack Horton in the wake of his protest against his drug cheat rival.
After coming in second to Chinese rival Sun Yang in the 400m freestyle at the World Championships, Mack took a stand by refusing to stand on the podium with the convicted drug cheat.
Former sprinter Raelene Boyle understands Mack’s plight in a way few others do, having been robbed of two gold medals by East German drug cheats at the 1972 Olympics.
She tells Steve Price she wishes she’d thought of the idea herself.
“I actually was very proud of him and I think Australia should be proud of him.
“I think that Mack made a very gentleman-like stance. There was no uproar, there was no BS that went with it.
“To be truthful if I had’ve thought of it years ago I would’ve bloody done it myself!”
