‘I’d be very surprised’: Socceroos great Mark Schwarzer on whether Tim Cahill will play or not
Tonight the Socceroos’ World Cup dreams go on the line with the final game of the group stage.
Australia plays Peru in Sochi, Russia at midnight (AEST), needing a win to have a chance of progressing to the Round of 16.
But, it’s only one half of the equation.
At the same time, France and Denmark play with Australia needing the French to secure a victory by more than one goal to guarantee progression.
The question on the lips of all Australians is, ‘Will Tim Cahill play?’.
Socceroos great Mark Schwarzer tells Alan Jones his thoughts on whether our 38-year-old talisman will play.
“I don’t think he’ll start.
“I think what a lot of people, in their memory, in their emotions of watching Australia play at the World Cup, the first thing you think of is Timmy Cahill and how successful he’s been for the Socceroos and what an integral part he’s been.
“But what Bert (van Marwijk) sees every day is how he trains and his contribution on the training field, and he manages the game.
“I’d be very surprised if he didn’t come on at some stage in this game though.”
