‘I’m thrilled for you, son. It’s just such a big deal’: Inglis appointed Kangaroos captain
Greg Inglis has been appointed the successor to Cameron Smith as captain of the Kangaroos.
Coach Mal Meninga has named his 19-man squad for the upcoming tests against New Zealand and Tonga.
Four uncapped players have been named with Latrell Mitchell, Damien Cook, Tyrone Peachey and James Tedesco all looking to make their debuts in the green and gold.
Meninga says there’s no player more qualified to lead the side than Inglis, and Ray Hadley couldn’t agree more.
“Oh mate, I’m over the moon!
“I’m thrilled for you, son. It’s just such a big deal.
“You’re an advocate for not just indigenous people and great rugby league players, you’re an advocate for people suffering mental health as well.
“This proves no matter what the hurdle in front of you, you can go to the top of the tree mate.”
Inglis tells Ray Hadley it’s going to be an honour to lead his country.
“Having Boyd Cordner has a vice-captain, I couldn’t ask for anyone better to be behind me.
“Boyd’s a fantastic leader, he’s a fantastic person himself.
“It’s a massive honour for myself and for South Sydney as well.
“I just want to do a great job as the other leaders did in my position, I’m talking about [Cameron Smith] and [Darren Lockyer] and I just want to lead our country to victory.”
