Industry welcomes ‘first step’ in easing rental squeeze in QLD
The state government will make urgent changes to planning laws to allow Queenslanders to lease their granny flats on the rental market, in a bid to ease the housing crisis.
The amendment was suggested by stakeholders at a pre-housing summit roundtable meeting last week.
The state government has announced its removing restrictions on people who can live in secondary dwellings.
Planning Institute of Australia’s Queensland Division president Shannon Batch welcomed the idea, and said it was a great first step.
“I think the first important step would be to have a chat with your local council, so they all have a hotline you can call … it is important to note different local councils have different requirements.”
